MISC, the Malaysian shipowner, has made a significant move towards sustainability in the shipping industry by ordering the world's first ammonia dual-fuel Aframax tankers from Dalian Shipbuilding Co Ltd (DSIC). These tankers are set to be chartered by Petronas’ PETCO Trading Labuan Company Ltd (PTLCL). The contracts, signed after a Memorandum of Understanding 14 months prior, mark a crucial step in turning ambitious environmental goals into actionable solutions. Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam, President and Group CEO of MISC, emphasized the importance of this milestone. While the delivery date remains undisclosed, the collaboration between MISC, AET, PTLCL, and DSIC signals a commitment to advancing the decarbonization of the shipping sector. With a focus on safety, MISC intends to collaborate further for ammonia bunkering and seafarer training, underscoring the industry's determination to navigate the transition to sustainable marine fuels.
