Seafarer Completes NAMEPA’s ESG Assessment Program Maritime Sustainability Passport Awarded

July 14, 2023--   Second Engineer Naidu Rama Lingeswara Rao is the fourth individual to certify under NAMEPA’s (North American Marine Environment Protection Association) ESG Maritime Sustainability Passport (MSP) Program, announced Carleen Lyden Walker, NAMEPA’s Co-Founder and CEO.

“We congratulate Engineer Rao for attaining NAMEPA’s Maritime Sustainability Passport and Seal,” stated Ms. Walker. “Seafarers are integral to the sustainability and functionality of the maritime industry. Without them world trade comes to a halt. Mr. Rao exemplifies that seafaring professional who has taken the initiative to commit to incorporating ESG strategies into his work.”

NAMEPA received the following note from Engineer Rao: “Trust me, Just the opportunity to participate in the MSP 2023 program is an incredible honor for me. Getting the Seal is the icing on the cake. I thank each and every one of you for this esteemed recognition.”

When queried regarding his ESG journey, Engineer Rao shared the following:
“For me, the MSP Program has been a catalyst for fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective action. This platform has the potential to bring diverse stakeholders of shipping industry to come together, exchange ideas, and collectively address the pressing challenges we face in preserving our oceans and ensuring a sustainable future.”

Engineer Rao was awarded the MSP by completing all phases of the program, including supplying supporting documentation for his claims. ESGplus LLC evaluated his submission to determine whether he met the ESG program’s criteria, which, upon approval, made him eligible to receive the MSP Certificate and Seal.

The NAMEPA Maritime Sustainability Passport (MSP) Program remains the only assessment program designed specifically for the maritime industry featuring all three elements of sustainability- the E, the S, and the G. Since its launch in 2020, many companies have matriculated through the program and earned their Maritime Sustainability Passport (MSP) & MSP Seal. The goal of the NAMEPA MSP Program is to help track and measure ESG performance on an annual basis and to improve industry practices to create a sustainable global society.
